Hi Elizabeth, can you tell us about yourself?
I grew up in the Iowa, which is part of the Midwestern region of the United States. I studied in New Brunswick University in Canada and focused on global cultures. Today, I live near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and teach local immigrants from Sudan, Syria, Mexico, Thailand, Egypt, and Ukraine. I joined JBE in 2021 after 5 years of teaching ESL online to Chinese children. Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching a variety of group and individual classes with ages ranging from 6-years-old through adult. I love connecting with my students and watching them grow in their skills and confidence.
After studying about global culture and being exposed to so many communities, online and in person, how would you describe your experience with JBE?
I really enjoy working for JBE as it opened me a new window of opportunities to connect with the Israeli community. I enjoy learning about the culture and rich traditions, which often become a part of our conversational practice.
Our students love your teaching, can you tell us what is unique about it?
There are many teaching methods and throughout my teaching journey, I am able to see and assess the needs of students to provide them with a customized experience that meets them where they are and helps them move forward.
As a teacher, I believe it is important to tailor learning to the individual or unique group of individuals. Each student has different learning preferences, skills, and challenges. Teaching becomes most effective when we understand this uniqueness and are able to deliver material in a way that best fits the student or group.
I believe each teacher has a unique way of teaching. I feel that my methods of teaching work because I am empathetic, personable, and speak very clearly, and slowly when needed. I truly care about my students, and my hope is that they always leave the session learning something new and feeling encouraged.
All of this is amazing, but what is your secret sauce?
I strive to always provide a safe, fun space for them to develop their English skills and feel like they have a friend in the process.
Elizabeth, it was a pleasure speaking with you. And on behalf of our students I want to say thank you
