Knowledge Frontiers: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2025
The program aims to support projects which engage with questions concerning the relationship between expertise, public understanding and policy delivery internationally, and highlight the importance of collaboration between communities of practice, disciplines, capacities and borders. Research may be problem-focused, creatively innovative and exploratory, and should bring together relevant disciplines in both the humanities and social sciences, where appropriate, for maximum impact/effect. The Academy requires all applications to fundamentally involve and integrate both the humanities and the social sciences.
Budget: Up to £300,000
Duration: 2 years
Eligibility: Israeli researchers can apply as co-applicants with a UK based PI
Simons Foundation has launched a global research program to address key knowledge gaps in Solar Radiation Management (SRM) techniques, such as stratospheric aerosol injection and marine cloud brightening, which aim to cool the planet. The program focuses on discovering safe materials for SRM, understanding their effects, and improving climate models.
Priority Areas (Partial List): • Characterizing SAI and CCT materials and their interactions to enhance climate model inputs.
• Approaches to minimize cirrus cloud formation, including from aircraft emissions.
• Environmentally benign materials discovery for SAI and CCT.
Researching Research: Collaborative Research Projects - 'Political influences on epistemic practice'
Funding is available for scientists at all career stages working on research-related topics. It supports collaborative projects with diverse methods and international partnerships. The current call aims to link scientific practices with political decisions, exploring how political factors influence research and how scientific processes impact political actions.
Request for Proposals for Alternative Proteins Proof-Of-Concept Academic Research Projects
The Good Food Institute (GFI) Israel, is seeking proposals for innovative ideas and approaches to address challenges in the field of alternative proteins. The focus is on projects with strong scientific foundations that could eventually be commercialized.
Areas of Interest: • Scientific or technological challenges in developing or improving plant-based, microbial, or cell-culture meat alternatives, including seafood.
• Projects that enhance the taste, texture, or price parity of meat alternatives, such as novel ingredients or scalable production technologies.Proposals should be scientifically robust with potential for future commercialization.
Litwin IBD Pioneers Supports innovative clinical and translational research projects with the potential to impact the treatment of IBD patients in the near future. The program encourages novel research into the diagnosis, identification of clinically relevant subsets, treatments, and cures for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and funds innovative pilot research so that scientists can test their initial ideas and generate preliminary data.
Waste and the Circular Economy in the Arab Society
The Ministry of Environmental Protection is calling on researchers to submit research proposals on the topic of waste and the circular economy in the Arab society.
Research Topics: 1. Improving Waste Separation and Recycling in Arab Cities and Towns
2. Extent and Impact of Waste Disposal in Rural Areas
Data-Driven Decision Making Among School Principals
The Ministry of Education’s Office of the Chief Scientist invites researchers to submit proposals for studies focused on how school principals use data to make decisions. The research should explore various aspects, such as the types of data used, barriers and enabling factors for data-driven decision-making, and the impact of organizational culture and training on principals' ability to effectively use data. Insights from the research will contribute to the development of strategies and tools that support principals in making informed, data-driven decisions.
Student Volunteering During the 'Operation Iron Swords' War
The Office of the Chief Scientist invites researchers to submit proposals for studies on the characteristics and effects of student volunteering during the "Operation Iron Swords" war. The war has presented numerous national challenges, prompting many, including youth, to volunteer through formal and informal educational frameworks.
The research should explore the characteristics, scope, and motivations for volunteering, as well as the impact of volunteering on students' value development, self-esteem, sense of community belonging, ability to cope with stress and trauma, leadership development, and the integration of values such as solidarity, responsibility, and social cohesion. The findings from this research will contribute to the development of educational programs that enhance the personal and social resilience of students, helping educators create supportive and empowering learning environments.
Research Based on Medical Databases in the Field of Rehabilitation
The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, in collaboration with the Division of Hospitals at Clalit Health Services, has issued a call for research proposals focused on data-driven and innovative technologies in the field of rehabilitation. This initiative aims to advance groundbreaking research that leverages medical data and technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve patient care and outcomes. The program seeks to position Israel at the forefront of global research in rehabilitation by supporting the development of new products, services, and operational processes.
Focus Areas: • Predicting and assessing rehabilitation outcomes over time
• Rehabilitation of various war-related injuries
• Predicting deterioration during or after hospitalization
• Preventive medicine, such as preventing secondary fractures in patients with osteoporosis

Renewable Energy in Israel
The NZO Project at The Heschel Center for Sustainability, the Institute for Climate and Environmental Policy at Ben Gurion University of the Negev and the Vice President for Research and Development Prof. Raz Jelinek invite BGU researchers to collaborate on research to advance a renewable energy-based electricity grid in Israel. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen national energy security.
The purpose of this call for proposals is to promote productive collaboration between civil society and academia in order to provide high-quality knowledge to decision makers in shaping policies on renewable energy and an advanced, technological electricity grid ready for the challenges of the 21st century.
Research topics:Technological-economic model development, integration of innovative measures in the electricity grid, and behavioral studies.
Budget: 80,000 NIS per research project (depending on the overall budget and the number of selected studies)
We invite all researchers to join Jenny Racah to explore the upcoming cycle of NSF-BSF funding opportunities. Don’t miss this chance to gain valuable insights that could support your research.
Dr. Heni Haring - Assistant Director of the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF) will make a special presentation focusing on the proposal submission procedure, and especially the scientific committees are handled and work. In addition, there is a possibility for one-on-one meetings for researchers who wish to submit a proposal in the upcoming cycle and who have a special or particular matter to discuss.
The Israel Science Foundation (ISF) invites researchers to attend meetings about the review process at the foundation. Four meetings will be held, according to the disciplines covered by the foundation. The meetings will be led by a scientific director from the foundation, where the review process for the personal research grant track will be explained. Please note that the meetings will not cover the submission rules for the foundation, which are detailed and published in the guidelines on the website. Researchers who wish to participate are requested to register for the meeting relevant to their field. A link to the meeting will be sent to registered participants closer to the meeting date.
