Scientific report /Evenari Symposium June 8, 2022
The Evenari Symposium is an annual gathering of plant and agriculture scientists and enthusiasts in honor of the late Prof. Michael Even-Ari at the Sede Boqer Campus. This year's topic highlights the belowground plant environment. We will also honor Prof. Jhonathan Ephrath on the occasion of his retirement. The symposium took place on June 8, 2022 at the Sede Boqer Campus in the George Evens Family Auditorium. About 120 researchers and students participated in the conference and it was a successful event.
Sigal Savaldi-Goldstein (Technion) was the keynote speaker and discussed about Mechanisms regulating root meristem shape and homeostasis. Yehoshua Saranga (Hebrew University) Showe new results about Tef (Eragrostis tefand root its root system. Amnon Cochavi (ARO Volcani Center) presented huis new research about the role of root architecture in plant stress tolerance. Douglas Godbold (Vienna University) discussed about soil organic matter in Ethiopian land-use systems. Tali Ilani (MOP Darom) presented her applied sduties regarding sweet potato. Hanan Eizenberg (ARO Volcani Center) Showed his work regarding remote sensing of the root parasitic plant broomrape (Orobanche spp. And Phelipanche spp.). Shimon Rachmilevitch (Ben-Gurion University) discussed about the belowground family ties within the Solanaceae. Next various researches discussed their finding regarding root research: Idan Efroni (Hebrew University) How many kinds of roots are there?. Boris Rewald (Vienna University) The invisible half - Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC) above- and belowground. Nirit Bernstein (ARO Volcani Center) The interplay between mineral uptake and secondary metabolites in medical cannabis Eilon Shani (Tel Aviv University) talked about Developing genomic tools to reveal the hidden genome of the hidden half. Zhou Kaining (Ben-Gurion University) In-situ root phenotyping of crops grown under stressed conditions. Ran Erel (ARO Volcani Center) Root traits associated with phosphate acquisition by plants.
The Symposium was closed by Pedro Berliner (Ben-Gurion University). He shared his thoughts about future research in arid regions and also talked about his shared research past with Prof. Jhonathan Ephrath.
