Prof. Chaim Hames, head of the Center for the Study of Conversion and Inter-Religious Encounters (I-CORE), has been asked by the Research Council of Norway to join the Scientific Selection Committee for the Norwegian Centres of Excellence in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The Committee will assist the Council in choosing worthy candidates for the Centres of Excellence.

The Center for the Study of Conversion and Inter-Religious Encounters is the only I-CORE headed by BGU. It holds a widely-attended international conference annually and is working on a database of conversions to assist scholars worldwide.

“The invitation by the Research Council of Norway is a recognition of the caliber of research we are conducting at the Center and at BGU in general,” says Hames.

Hames is a member of the Department of General History where he just completed two terms as head of the department.
