Forefront of Science

Prof. Daniel Zajfman (background): the cryogenic storage ring in Heidelberg
Space & Physics

A new “cold-storage” ring first proposed by Prof. Daniel Zajfman yields its first results – and they were not what scientists had thought

(l-r) Prof. Rivka Dikstein and Dr. Anat Bahat found a molecule that might help treat Huntington's disease
Life Sciences

These molecules may prevent only some of a crucial gene's activities without affecting others

Flipping Light to Separate Left from Right
Space & Physics

Light that switches direction every few billionths of a billionth of a second may be the fastest way yet to study ultrafast “mirror-image” phenomena
Injured heart following myocardial infarction. Healthy cardiomyocytes are stained in green. Injured area is stained in red
Life Sciences

The small molecule reduces damaging inflammation and improves heart function in mouse models of heart attack

A “river” of electrons flowing in a graphene channel. The viscosity generated by the repulsion between electrons (red balls) causes them to flow with a parabolic current density, illustrated here as a white foam wavefront
Space & Physics

The findings could help reduce resistance in electronic devices

(l-r) Dr. Kousik Bagani, Dr. Yuri Myasoedov, Prof. Eli Zeldov and Dr. Arthur Marguerite
Space & Physics

New findings present a nuanced picture of electron flow in quantum states

Space & Physics

Institute physicists solve a "hard problem" with lasers and a hint
The new “trial-and-error-with-a-hint” method (bottom) comes close to the true image (top) after 100 nanoseconds)

People

A recent international conference suggests things are moving in the right direction
(l-r) Prof. Yossi Nir, Prof. Marta Losada and Dr. Meytal Eran Jona

International Philately Day 2019

Time Stamp

First day covers – stamps and envelopes – put out by the Israel Post Philatelic Service to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Weizmann Institute of Science, as well as International Philately Day, 2019.

The icons that are rising from Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s hand symbolize the main research fields at the Institute: Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Science Education.
