ISF and JDRF Announcement for New Funding -
Centers of Excellence for Research of Type 1 Diabetes

The Israel Science Foundation (ISF), in cooperation with the Global Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), is pleased to announce the opening of a new program to fund Centers of Excellence for research of type 1 diabetes.

The Program for Centers of Excellence (NoE) is intended to support collaborative programs for innovative research of Israeli researchers, to advance the understanding of the prevention, treatment and healing of type 1 diabetes.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation -
Research Awards (Letter of Intent)

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supports research to develop strategies for the early detection and intervention of chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) following lung transplantation.

The foundation has issued a request for applications (RFA) to support proposals that address the research priorities of the Infection Research Initiative in three possible categories: Basic research, Clinical Research (single center or multicenter) and Team Science (multi-disciplinary team).

NEW - The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Foundation -
Curing Alzheimer’s Disease Call

Through partnership with Alzheimer’s Quest, Inc., The Benter Foundation and the IDSA Foundation invite researchers to submit their proposal addressing the identification of a potential microbial link to Alzheimer’s disease.

All application submissions must be narrowly focused on elucidating the possible roles of infectious agents that cause Alzheimer’s disease. The awards will support innovative research including basic, clinical, and/or non-traditional approaches.

EU Calls for 2020 - Main Topics for Food WP

The EU has officially launched the calls for 2020. See below for main topics under the WP of: Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy.

The Food Work Program contains the following main topics:

US Army Info Day - Final Reminder!

Dr. Jennifer Becker, US Army Basic and applied Research Team Leader, is coming to BGU for an informational day to talk about US Army research interest areas and funding opportunities.

During the orientation session, researchers are invited to introduce their research topics, which may lead to a request to submit a white paper to the US Army. From past experience, these personal meetings can result in successful grants, and therefore, participation is highly recommended.

Date: September 11, 2019, 9:00-10:00.

The meeting will be followed by one-on-one sessions (~15 min) with researchers/research groups that would like to present their research field and new ideas.

Prior registration is required.

BIRAX AGEING - Calls for Proposals for an
Academic Conference on Ageing Research

The British Council in Israel runs the British Israel Research and Academic Exchange (BIRAX), which funds cutting-edge research conducted by British and Israeli scientists.

The BIRAX conference is the largest conference organised by British Council Israel.

The fifth conference aims to strengthen and expand the network, to ascertain new priorities and engage new audiences.

In this call for proposals, BIRAX aims to develop a partnership with an academic institution in Israel to deliver the fifth BIRAX conference. The selected grantee will work together with the British Council in Israel to develop the conference from inception to delivery - selection of theme, speakers and sessions, administration of the conference, and logistics, e.g., registration, room hire and catering etc.

3 Important Tips for Planning a Proposal's Budget

Each foundation has its specific submission guidelines, including guidelines for proposal budget. It is important to read the budget guidelines, which are published as part of the call for proposals. In addition you should contact your budget coordinator in order to get instructions and to prepare the budget prior to submitting it to the foundation.
For each call there is a due date. It is advisable to reach budget coordinator in advance, before submitting the proposal. It is advised to be in contact with the budget coordinator throughout the writing of the proposal.
In most cases, a research proposal is made up of several sections. It is advisable to reach your budget coordinator with a list of required resources (i.e., wages, materials and equipment, etc.). The rest is discussed with the budget coordinator in accordance with the guidelines of the specific call .
